Harness broadcasts to debut with Hoosier Cup, Upper Canada Cup

from Sirius XM satellite radio

The first of 11 90-minute broadcasts of the best harness racing action from around North America will kick off Saturday, May 29, at 9:30 p.m. (EDT) on Sirius XM satellite radio. The featured events on this Saturday’s show will be the Hoosier Cup from Hoosier Park and the Upper Canada Cup from Georgian Downs.

The series, called “Saturday Night at the Races” will run for 11 consecutive weeks and conclude August 7. Originally scheduled to run for one hour, the shows have been expanded to a 90-minute format in order to play as many live stakes races as possible. Bill Finley and Dave Johnson will host the shows. Finley writes for the New York Times and ESPN.com and Johnson was known as the voice of the Kentucky Derby during his more than 20 years with ABC Sports. Noted Standardbred owner and trainer Peter Kleinhans will serve as the analyst. In Sweden to prepare Enough Talk for Sunday’s Elitlopp, Kleinhains will contribute to the first show via the phone from Europe.

This week and every week, the shows can be heard on Sirius Channel 126 and XM Channel 243.

This Saturday’s broadcast will also include Indiana Sires Stakes races from Hoosier Park, the Earl Rowe Memorial Trot from Georgian Downs and previews of the Elitlopp and Sunday’s Empire Breeders Classic finals from Tioga Downs.

The shows were made possible through the support and sponsorship of Brittany Farms, Hanover Shoe Farms, Perretti Farms, Empire Casino at Yonkers Raceway, Tioga and Vernon Downs, Woodbine Entertainment and the Indiana Breed Development.
