Harness Horse Youth Foundation in Maine this weekend

Windsor, ME — Ellen Taylor and crew have set-up shop at the Windsor Fairgrounds in Maine for a two-day kids camp that commences on Saturday (July 23).

This is one of many HHYF kids camps that travel from the Midwest to the East Coast that as described in their Mission Statement is “To provide young people and their families information and experiences with harness horses in order to foster the next generation of fans and participants.”

Day one will introduce the kids to the horses and all that goes on behind the scenes from mucking, equine anatomy to horse care. After lunch the kids will take to the track in the two seat jog carts with their experienced teachers by their side. A barbecue is planned at the end of the day for the kids and their families.

Day two, the kids will start out the morning with caring for the horses, then they head to the Union Fairgrounds to see harness racing up close. This will be a special day at Union as Jason “Jake” Phipps will be honored with a t-shirt giveaway.

The Western New England Harness Horsemen’s Association, along with the Maine Harness Horsemen’s Association, have made financial contributions to make the kids camp possible. Also, special thanks to Ellen Taylor of HHYF and Deb Patterson of MHHA for setting the groundwork, to Yarmouth Lumber (Bill Phipps and Mona Dodd) for making the t-shirt giveaway possible, and the New England Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association.
