from the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame

Goshen, NY — Tropical Storm Irene may have dealt a strong blow to the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, but thanks to the diligent efforts of many, our facility is completely restored and better than ever.

“The Story of Harness Racing by Currier & Ives and Salvador Dali” is one of the latest exhibitis at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame.

Now’s the time to come and visit our latest exhibits, “Sulky Slicks: Harness Racing as an Advertising Icon” and “The Story of Harness Racing by Currier & Ives and Salvador Dali,” together with “A Bevy of Bronzes,” spotlighting the Animalier style by artists that include Isidore Bonheur and Pierre Jules Mene.

“Sulky Slicks: Harness Racing as an Advertising Icon” features advertisements from yesteryear and includes a charming slideshow of advertisements from a Museum friend’s collection. It cleverly illustrates the wide appeal of harness racing and its ability to sell a cornucopia of products and services.

“The Story of Harness Racing by Currier & Ives and Salvador Dali” takes an artistic journey from traditional to surreal as 19th century lithographs depict a sport filled with excitement, entertainment and legend reinterpreted by one of the 20th century’s most famous surrealistic artists.

“A Bevy of Bronzes” features the works of Isidore Bonheur (1827-1901), a highly regarded French sculptor from a family of artists known for their realistic depictions of animals, and Pierre Jules Mene (1810–1877), the most successful and prolific Animalier sculptor of his time. Fine examples of both artists’ equine works are on display for everyone’s enjoyment.

Thanks to USTA support, the Museum is currently offering free admission for walk-in visitors and $4.00/person for group docent-guided tours.
