London, ON — The Raceway at the Western Fair District will host the 11th annual Harness the Hope night this Friday night (Oct. 28) with proceeds going to benefit the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
Harness The Hope has become a staple at The Raceway and one of the major events that kicks off each racing season in London. It is the brainchild of Doreen Dustin, wife of local horseman Greg Dustin, who herself was diagnosed with breast cancer on Oct. 24, 2005.
“This is certainly very special to me and it’s hard to believe that it’s been 11 years,” she explained. “The reason we’ve continued this each year is because of the tremendous support we’ve received from the industry. And, every year we have women in our community who are diagnosed and it keeps reminding us of the importance of this cause.”
The Raceway will be decked out in pink once again this Friday with festivities beginning at 6 p.m. Some of the events include the launch of the new “Winning Key Contest” in which keys can be purchased for $20 each and after race six everyone will be able to try their key in three locked boxes to unlock a grand prize. Grand prizes include an Apple iPad Air 2 32GB sponsored by M.A. Poels Trucking, a Panasonic SC-UA7 Bluetooth speaker system sponsored by Strathroy Audio Video and a full day golf and dinner package for four sponsored by Caradoc Sands Golf Club.
Additional fundraising efforts include a 50/50 draw, silent auction and penny auctions.
Fans who wear pink to the track can fill out a ballot for mystery prize giveaway during the night. All patrons, sponsors, donors and volunteers are invited to join in trackside after race three for a commemorative event photo of the Harness the Hope winning blanket presentation.
Post time is 7:05 p.m. and there is still limited seating available at the Top of the Fair Restaurant. A portion of each meal sold that night will go towards the fundraising efforts. To book your table, call 519.438.7203 (ext. 252) or e-mail topofthefair@westernfairdistrict.com.
