Harrington and Callahan team to help pets

Harrington, DE — Harrington Raceway and driver Corey Callahan will team up with the Kent County SPCA to present “Pet Adoption Day” at the track on Sunday, October 11. Post time is 5:15 p.m. at the track, located at the state fairgrounds off Route 13, in Harrington, Delaware.

Callahan, one of harness racing’s top drivers, is a regular at Harrington and he’s teaming up with the track to help find homes and care for hundreds of abandoned pets in Delaware.

“Most people in the horse business like animals of all kinds and appreciate the role they play in our lives. I’m one of them,” says Callahan. “The Kent County SPCA is struggling more than ever to care for pets whose owners have abandoned them and I want to do what I can to help.”

Representatives from the SPCA will be at the track that night, on the first floor grandstand lobby, with pets looking for a forever home. Starting at 6 p.m., Callahan will sign free photos in that area, as well as lucky horseshoes that can be purchased to benefit the SPCA at $5 each or 3 for $10, for those who need a lot of luck.

Racing fans are encouraged to visit the pets seeking a home and to bring along pet food or a pet food gift card for donation to the shelter. For each bag, box, can or gift card, fans get an entry in a drawing for BONZ, Harrington’s luxury restaurant. Second prize is a ride in the track’s starting gate, for a rare view of the races. Additional prizes are expected to be added closer to the event.

Callahan will donate 10 cents to the Kent Co. SPCA for each pound of pet food donated at the track that day.
