Columbus, OH — Harry Eugene Pownall Jr., 88, of Pinehurst, N.C., died March 22, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Pownall was born Oct. 9, 1926 in Mineola, N.Y., to the late Harry and Beatrice Pownall.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and later became a Standardbred trainer and blacksmith, working with the equine community at Roosevelt Raceway and Yonkers Raceway in New York.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jones Pownall; sons, Gregory and Jarrett; stepsons, Stephen L. (Michelle) Jones and Jeffery A. (Sher) Jones; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
