Harvey Junior Bowen, 84, dies

Columbus, OH — Harvey Junior Bowen, 84, of Mt. Sterling, Ill., died March 10, 2010 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

He was born March 9, 1926 in Brown County, Ill., the son of Harve and Mabel Daniels Bowen. He married Darlene Clayton on October 9, 1943 in Palmyra, Mo.

Mr. Bowen was a deputy for the Brown County Sheriff’s Department for several years and was also a trainer and driver of Standardbreds for 41 years.

He attended Hersman Schools and was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the United States Army.

Mr. Bowen was a member of the USTA and a former member of the American Legion. He always enjoyed attending auctions and loved trap shooting.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; sons, Larry (Susan) and Alan (Jacalyn); brother, Norman (Alice); sister, Zelma (Pete) Lane; grandchildren, Carol Oeser, Pamela, Renee (Bob) Blentlinger, Jill (Eric) Schenk, Sarah (Blake) Crenshaw, Douglas and David Brink; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son in infancy; a grandson, Richard “Butch”; one great-grandson in infancy; and a sister, Evelyn Whaley.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery with Rev. Connie Jenkins and Pastor Ron Cox officiating. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brown County Against Cancer and may be left at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
