Hat Trick for Bowden at Plainridge

Marlborough, MA — Driver-trainer Greg Bowden has always known where the winner’s circle is. And on Monday (September 10) at Plainridge Racecourse he found it three times.

The three-time driving champion at Plainridge had perhaaps his best day on the racing strip in recent months, driving three winners on the nine-race card. Greg scored with Futile Quest in the second race (1:57.3); Mr D B in the sixth (1:56.3); and Motara N in the nightcap (1:56.2).

Earlier this year, Bowden won his 3,000th career race at Bangor Raceway, his hometown. He has always been a consistent winner at Plainridge and holds the record for most drives since the track opened in 1999.

Bowden was one of eight drivers who took part on Beckwith Day in the Legends of Harness Racing competition, which also featured the likes of John Hogan, Peter Blood, Ted Wing, Bruce Ranger, Willard Beckwith, Jim Doherty and Stephen O’Toole.

Longshot honors on the Monday program belonged to Lord Michael, owned by Alfred Thomas and driven to victory at odds of 28-1 by trainer Joseph Therrien.

Tuesday’s (September 11) card features four Massachusetts Sires Stakes races totaling $30,000.Two races feature 3-year-old fillies, while the other two are for 3-year-old colts and geldings.

First race post time has been moved up to 1:00 p.m.
