Hearing results in changes to OSS 2-year-old colt trot draw

from the Ontario Racing Commission

Toronto, ON — As a result of an Ontario Racing Commission hearing held on August 11, the draw for the rescheduled Ontario Sires Stakes 2-year-old colt trot will be limited to those 27 horses that originally drew into the canceled July 21 Gold eliminations.

On July 22, the Program Administrator issued notice that the 2-year-old colt trot elimination races at Mohawk on July 21 would be rescheduled to August 19. In that decision the Program Administrator had advised that the rescheduled event would be opened up to all eligible OSS horses and that the restriction to Grassroots #2 horses would be lifted. This decision was appealed by a number of horsepeople and the hearing was held on August 11.

The panel, consisting of Chair Rod Seiling allowed the appeal and ordered as follows:

The rescheduled event will be open only to those horses that were entered into the July 21, 2011 event. There will be a redrawing of post positions thereby ensuring that any of the 27 horses that may have become ineligible due to not having the required “clean” line will have the opportunity to re-qualify before the entry box closes. Furthermore, any horse that opts not to re-enter will not be subject to the starting fee.

The interests of all original horses are advised that: 1. all horses must be re-entered, and 2. all horses must be eligible at the time of entry.
