Hechkoff wins GSY Amateur contest that pays some cash

East Rutherford, NJ — Robert Hechkoff was back to his winning ways at the Meadowlands and he did it in his normal position on the front end.

The first race on Friday night’s (June 10) Big M card had a field of nine go to post. Hechkoff aboard No Recess, left from post position four and never looked back. After carving out sensible fractions of :28 and :57.2 to the half, he was challenged by the longest shot on the board, Doc Simon’s Dream (Jimmy Marshall IV) from the half until the top of the stretch. After sustaining pressure for over a quarter mile, Hechkoff maintained command urging by light whip tapping to a length victory at odds of 10-1. No Recess, a 7-year-old gelding by Rich Boy paid $22.40 to win.

No Recess is owned Robert Hechkoff’s R.B.H. Ventures Inc. and trained by Kyle Spagnola.

Rounding out the exacta was Doc Simon’s Dream who stayed on for second at odds of 51-1. The exacta that paid $606.80. Rounding out the trifecta was Roy Marohn piloting Captain Primeau at 22-1. The trifecta paid $6,833.20.

The betting public contributed a hefty sum of money for the first race with all pools totaling $300,000.

Next Friday (June 17), the GSY Series Amateur Series will take a week hiatus to allow the CKG Billings Amateur Series to return to the Big M.

Series action returns to the Big M on Friday (June 24) with a post time of 7:15 p.m.
