Herman Drenth Jr, 84, dies

Herman Drenth Jr, age 84, of Federalsburg, MD passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side.

Herm was a man of many talents and occupations. He grew up in Northern, NJ in the Ridgewood / Glen Rock area. He was a great athlete in his younger years. He played in the 1st Little League World Series when it was in Hammonton New Jersey before it was ever played in PA. As a senior at Ridgewood High School, he batted 550. He loved baseball but lettered in baseball, basketball, and football too. He tried out with the Dodgers, Giants, and Cardinals and had the opportunity to sign with all three. Instead, he signed with Uncle Sam and served his country as a proud marine.

When discharged from the USMC, he joined the Glen Rock Police Department while simultaneously owning a Brick & Stone Masonry company. After moving to Federalsburg, he trained and raced standard bred racehorses for nearly 40 years. Before retiring he owned Delmarva Natural Stone Company for 20 years.

He is predeceased by his parents Anna & Herman Sr, his sister Margaret “Marge” Tulner, and brother Dennis Drenth.

He is Survived by his wife, Lynn, his son Charles (Lisa) Drenth, his stepchildren, Eve Herber, Robert Nordblom and James Nordblom, four grandchildren, Daniel, Lauren, Amanda, and Zoe Herber, and by Kirk Wright a longtime family friend whom Herm loved as a son.

Herman was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, very Pro-Life, loved the Lord with all his heart, freely sharing the Gospel with so very many people from all walks of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Sussex Pregnancy Center or directly to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church to help mothers who choose life & their babies.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 7th at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes in Seaford, DE with Interment immediately following at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
