HHYF coming to Goshen Historic Track

from the Harness Horse Youth Foundation

Westfield, IN — The Harness Horse Youth Foundation is pleased to announce that Goshen Historic Track, located in Goshen, N.Y., will host the Harness Racing Youth League summer camp on July 18-22 and the HHYF Leadership Program July 22–24. HHYF representatives and two equine members of the HHYF stable will also be present at the Family Day scheduled for June 6.

“Goshen provides an almost perfect environment for HHYF activities. The track and the Museum are always eager to assist. Local breeding farms are nearby and very accommodating for field trips. HHYF is looking forward to spending an enjoyable week filled with capturing the enthusiasm of potential new fans for harness racing,” said Ellen Taylor, HHYF Executive Director.

HRYL camps are designed for young people ages 12 to 14 who want to learn more about harness racing. No previous experience with horses is necessary. During the five-day program, participants are immersed in the daily care of seven horses, learning about their equipment and the regular routine of barn chores. In addition, the participants are introduced to career opportunities, equine conformation, driving techniques and strategies and many other facets of the horse industry.

The HHYF Leadership Program is for those aged 14 and up and who have either participated in an HHYF program or have some racing experience. The focus of this event is to provide participants the opportunity to further explore the racing industry while also practicing public speaking and critical thinking skills.

Potential participants must write a 250 word essay outlining why he/she would like to attend and complete general information on the application form. The cost for each event is $150 which includes all meals, lodging, and transportation during the program.

The Goshen events join the list of five HRYL events previously scheduled. Those include Odds On Racing–June 16–20; Vernon Downs–July 6–10; Gaitway Farm–July 12-15; Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs–July 27–31; and the “final” at the Meadowlands–August 6–7.

HHYF is also participating in Family Days at Harrington Raceway on June 5 and Goshen Historic Track on June 6 as well as sponsoring the HHYF Leadership Program for ages 14 and older on July 22–24.
