Highlights from Thursday’s Post Time show

by Michael Carter

Elkton, MD — Mike and Mike kicked off the show with Director of Racetrack Operations/Track Announcer Gabe Prewitt.

Prewitt discussed the success of the Pick-4 guarantee on Sunday night (Jan. 15) as the Pompano faithful wagered just north of $31,300. Prewitt said “If it’s Sunday night it’s Pompano Park and we have another blockbuster card coming up on Sunday.”

The duo talked with up and coming driver Drew Monti who has been a hit at the Meadowlands as of late winning with some very big horses.

Monti said “It (Going to the Meadowlands) was a big step, it started as just killing time, but it has turned into something bigger than that.”

During the interview the duo played his first career victory back for him aboard Mr. Grin at Buffalo Raceway in 2013. He said “I like to think I’m better than I was back then (after his first win.)”

Monti was very happy with the drives he was getting at the Meadowlands and says he has done the leg work to make sure he gets drives. He gave credit to Rick Dane Jr. who always puts him down first out of the box.

Murray Brown talked to Mike and Mike about the biography Book Full and Closed and how the book came about.

Brown said he was asked for years to write a book and while he was good at expressing himself and editing, he was not very secure at actually writing. Bob Marks and Victoria Howard stepped up and offered to write the book for him.

“We met every Monday afternoon and we talked while he (Bob) took notes and I would edit it. This went on for about three months and we came up with a book.” said Brown about the biography.

The book is available via www.amazon.com.

The duo ended the show with a fantastic interview with Hall of Famer Herve Fillion. Fillion said that his family used to gather at the house every Sunday, and his mother insisted they find something to do every week as they could not host. So the family bought a horse, Pineridge Stella, for $300 and they raced the horse on Sundays so the whole family could be involved.

Fillion said “The biggest thrill I got in the industry was winning the Little Brown Jug with Nansemond over the great Albatross.”
