Homebreds win Ohio Breeders Championships

Delaware, OH — A pair of Ohio homebreds captured the two Ohio Breeders Championships on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 18) at the Delaware County Fair.
Buzzen Troubador won the $25,700 2-year-old colt trot and Contessa Leigh captured the $30,650 2-year-old filly trot.
Buzzen Troubador held off the fast charging Master Miracle by a nose for Hugh Beatty. Bred, owned and trained by Jack Marsh of Rawson, Ohio, Buzzen Troubador took over the lead at the head of the stretch to pick up his third victory of the year in a personal best 2:03.1 and returned $17.80, 5.60, 3.00.
Contessa Leigh, bred, owned, trained and driven by Marty Wollam of Vienna, Ohio, led all the way to defeat Diplomats Mistress by 2-1/2 lengths in 2:01. The victory was the filly’s fifth in seven career starts. Contessa Leigh paid $3.00, 2.10, 2.10.
Ashlee’s Wedding led from start to finish to give trainer Virgil Morgan, Jr. his 83rd Delaware Fair victory in the $10,000 Delaware Open Series. Kayne Kauffman was in the sulky as Ashlee’s Wedding edged South Side Camie.
