Hoovler Pace to Dragons Lucky Lady at Scioto

Columbus, OH — It took the fastest last quarter of the race for Dragons Lucky Lady to pull off a mild upset in the Skip Hoover Pace Final at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Friday (June 18). It also took a new lifetime best, 1:51.2, for Dragons Lucky Lady to take home the winner’s share of the $18,700 purse.

Tyler Smith dropped the 3-year-old filly from post position seven into the four-hole for the :27.2 opening quarter while Lady Warrior (Aaron Merriman) swooped around from post eight to take the early lead. Going to the :55.1 half She Knows It All (Tony Hall) took over but just as the field tripped the beam, Smith flushed cover from Jennas Tonic (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.). Coming out of the turn the duo tipped three-wide and powered on in the stretch to win by a half-length over Jennas Tonic in 1:51.2. She Knows It All held on for third.

Dragons Lucky Lady, by Dragon Again out of the Million Dollar Cam mare Precious Cammil went off at 6-1 and paid $14.20 to win. Clarence Foulk trains the filly who just went over $43,000 in lifetime earnings for L&L Stables and William Hartt.

The Hoovler Final was the second of four finals held for the non-winners of two series for 3-5-year-olds named after Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association past presidents. Each series consisted of two legs and a final.

The  $19,200 Daryl Sherman (for male pacers) will be held on Wednesday (June 23), while the $19,100 Dr. Al Gabel (for male trotters) won’t be held until Friday (June 25), due to taking a week off for the Buckeye Stallions Series. The Richard Brandt (for female trotters) was won by Shenzi AS on Thursday (June 17) in 1:55.3.
