Horsemen not deterred by winter at Blooded Horse Sale

Delaware, OH — The monster storm was the top news story across the country, as trucks and trailers poured into Delaware, Ohio for the 44th annual Winter Speed Sale.

“The horsemen knew it was coming and pulled in during the night Sunday and Monday to beat the snow,” said stall man Kenny Edwards. “Tuesday morning around 3:00 a.m. the storm hit and didn’t let up for 30 hours. But it didn’t matter. The horses and the people were here, and the sale was good.”

Open pacing mare Mama Cash topped the two day event at $22,000. Consigned by Canon Hill Farm as agent, the daughter of Jenna’s Beach Boy was purchased by Merv Chupp to race in Chicago. The precocious maiden trotting gelding Notalaughingmatter heads to Florida on a $16,000 bid from Terry Eiches.

Michael Brown of California sent several upper class claimers from Cal Expo. Among them were Art Creek Boy, who was purchased by Dan Smith of Pennsylvania for $16,000, and Gee Gee Giant, who went to Michael Perpall of Massachusetts for $12,500. Young conditioned trotting mare Chevie Aveo was purchased from the Clyde Stevens consignment by Richard Hallahan of New Jersey for $13,500.

A couple of well bred race mares by The Panderosa were picked up for their future breeding potential. Ervin Wickey of Indiana signed the ticket for Easy On The Eyes with a mark of p,4,1:51.1 for $12,000 while Ken Backer of Ontario got the nod on Softly Glow at $11,200.

“In spite of very trying circumstances, the sale was consistent with previous years,” said Blooded Horse Sale President Jerry Haws. “I want to thank the consignors and buyers for their perseverance and patience and our Company and fairgrounds staff for their commitment. These are truly remarkable people, and we are blessed to have their support.”
