by Todd Haight, GM of Live Racing, Batavia Downs

Batavia, NY — Veteran conditioner Paul Messina gave his 6-year-old trotting mare Dusty Diamond her first look at Batavia Downs as the horses have begun arriving for the 65th season of live harness racing at America’s oldest lighted harness track.

“The racetrack is in perfect shape,” Messina said. “I can’t wait for Monday.”

Messina has been racing at the Downs since 1965.

Monday night (July 25) starts the Downs’ annual Summer-Fall meet. Post time is 6:40 p.m. There are 72 race dates that include three matinees and a Labor Day doubleheader.

Racing fans will be able to view the races live this year at www.bataviadownscasino.com. Simply click on “Live and Simulcast racing” and then the streaming video link located on the racing home page.
