Horses return to Elkhorn for the Walworth County Fair

Elkhorn, WI — Labor Day weekend means great racing at the Walworth County Fair in historic Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Post time is 1 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday (September 5 and 6) as trotters and pacers converge on the former Grand Circuit oval in southern Wisconsin.

One of the featured races on Saturday is named “The Why Bill” in memory of former fair board director Robert Key. A talented field of five races in Division I. From the rail out, the competitors are Twistan ($132,302 lifetime), Sharp Suzie Sushi ($66,635), Audreys Queen ($41,768), Puddin Tame ($63,440) and Lotta Spark ($68,118).

In the second division, Joe Momma ($15,442 lifetime), Finn Jet ($36,740), More Than A Song ($36,859) and Tremendous ($30,346) face-off in what is sure to be a fast and furious four-horse FFA.

In the third race on Saturday, Bob and Gabe Wand’s impressive trotter Good Ride Cowboy goes for his fifth win in a row. On Sunday, USTA District Director Bob Yohn will try to keep his recent streak going with Hermen’s Art, a 5-year-old gelding by The Firepan, who has won his first two lifetime starts in impressive fashion.

Also on Sunday, local trainer Becky Swinehart sends out Boneire’s Boo with her father Cliff O’Beirne in the bike. In 14 starts this year, Boneire’s Boo has tallied 5-5-1 for $23,746.
