I Did It Myway does it again at The Red Mile

Lexington, KY — On Tuesday (Aug. 23), I Did It Myway did exactly that when he and pilot Andy McCarthy allowed Kentucky champion Pebble Beach (Todd McCarthy) to dictate the pace prior to assuming control in the stretch at The Red Mile in the $80,000 third-round leg of the Kentucky Championship series for 3-year-old male pacers, winning in 1:48.3. McCarthy made a clean sweep of the Championship events when he and Eternal Lee captured the $80,000 third round of the sophomore filly trot division in 1:51.

The Red Mile also hosted two $30,000 third-round legs of the Kentucky Commonwealth series for sophomore trotting fillies and male pacers, and four $15,000 third-round legs of the Kentucky Golden Rod series for sophomore female trotters and male pacers.

I Did It Myway and Andy McCarthy were content to sit in fourth in the five-horse field as David Miller sent Six Feet Apart (David Miller) to the lead right off the gate. The son of Sweet Lou set the first fraction of :27.1 before yielding to Pebble Beach, who sailed by from third to take the lead before the half-mile pole. Pebble Beach paced the half mile in :55 and three-quarters in 1:22.1, but was outfinished by 2-1/4 lengths by rival I Did It Myway, who steadily advanced and found another gear as the wire loomed. Pebble Beach held for second and Dancin Sancho (Trevor Smith) was third.

I Did It Myway collected his second consecutive victory in Kentucky Championship series action at The Red Mile on Aug. 23.

The Captaintreacherous colt I Did It Myway, the first foal out of Flyme The Moon, is trained by Tony Alagna for Country Club Acres, Joe Sbrocco, Don Latore, and Alagna and Fodera Racing. He has earned $338,658 and has a record of 19-9-1-3. The colt paid $5.40 to win.

In the filly trot, Eternal Lee turned the tables on favored Selfie Queen to collect her fourth win of the season and her second in the Championship series. The daughter of Southwind Frank-Charity Hall trotted in fifth while Date Night (Andy Miller) led the field through the first quarter mile and Bare My Soul (Yannick Gingras) moved to the top after a half mile in :55.2. Eternal Lee made her move prior to the three-quarter-mile marker and dared her rivals to come get her. No one could. Date Night was second, closing back to within 1-1/2 lengths, and Yanaba (Todd McCarthy) was third.

Now trained by Chris Ryder, Eternal Lee was second to Kentucky champion Selfie Queen in last year’s 250,000 final when conditioned by Julie Walker. The filly competes as a homebred for Murray Ferguson Jr. Eternal Lee sports a resume of 15-5-3-2 and possesses a bankroll of $245,488. She paid $36.12 to win as the second longest shot on the board and established a new lifetime mark.

Racing resumes at The Red Mile on Sunday (Aug. 28) and will follow the normal Sunday-Monday-Tuesday schedule. First post is 1 p.m. EDT.
