I Did It Myway, Special Way assert their will at Red Mile

Lexington, KY – On Monday (Aug. 15) Red Mile hosted two $80,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Championship series, three $30,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Commonwealth series and four $15,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Golden Rod series for freshman and sophomore trotters and pacers on a 13-race card.

After chasing North America Cup winner Pebble Beach and Meadowlands Pace victor Beach Glass, I Did It Myway did just that by capturing his Championship division over Pebble Beach in 1:48.2 in the Championship division for 3-year-old pacers. Special Way pulled a mild upset in her Championship division for 2-year-old filly trotters in 1:52.2. Tim Tetrick guided four winners in the Bluegrass.

I Did It Myway (Andrew McCarthy) demonstrated his :25.4 last quarter-mile in a loss to Kentucky champion Pebble Beach in the first leg of this series on Aug. 7 made him a force to be reckoned with. The son of Captaintreacherous-Flyme To The Moon and his driver Andrew McCarthy sailed past Todd McCarthy and Pebble Beach with a :26.1 last quarter-mile for trainer Tony Alagna. Pebble Beach held second and Caviart Camden (Dexter Dunn) tossed down a :25.4 final panel to finish third.

I Did It Myway improved his record to 18-1-3 and upped his bankroll to $298,658. Bred by Joe Sbrocco, the colt was third in the $600,000 Meadowlands Pace on July 16 behind Beach Glass and sixth in the $770,000 North America Cup in arrears of Pebble Beach.

Owned by Country Club Acres, his breeder, Don Latore, Alagna And Fedora Racing, I Did It Myway paid $12.42 to win.

Special Way (Walner-Special Hill) broke her maiden for trainer/driver Ake Svanstedt in the Championship division for 2-year-old filly trotters. It was the filly’s first victory in three lifetime starts.

Life Itself was second and Mambicita (David Miller) failed to hold her lead into the stretch to come in third.
