Icanflylikeanagel romps in Meadows trot

Washington, PA — Hammered down to 1-5, Icanflylikeanangel zipped to the point from post five and easily turned back all challengers, romping to victory in Friday’s (May 21) $17,600 Open Handicap Trot at The Meadows and snapping a streak of four straight second-place finishes.

After four straight runner-up finishes, Icanflylikeanangel lived up to fives-on billing in Friday’s top trot at The Meadows. Chris Gooden photo.

The winner thwarted the uncovered bid of On Higher Ground and scored for Mike Wilder in 1:53.1, 1-3/4 lengths better than the pocket-sitting Cantab Lindy. Rising MVP rallied for show.

Randy Bendis trains Icanflylikeanangel, a 7-year-old Archangel-Fox Valley London gelding who extended his career bankroll to $470,163, and owns with Pollack Racing LLC.

Tony Hall collected three wins on the 13-race card, including a pair for trainer Samantha Blystone.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Saturday (May 22), when the 12-race program features a pair of carryovers: $4,708.06 in the final-race Super Hi-5, $1,441.12 in the Pick-5 (race seven). First post is 12:45 p.m.
