Illinois slots bill is still alive

Columbus, OH — Illinois lawmakers may be giving a proposal to allow slot machines at the state’s racetracks new life.

The bill remained in the Illinois House this past Friday (May 7) and past the General Assembly’s initially planned adjournment. But legislators are expected to return to session later this month to debate this and other bills and have set a deadline for May 28.

It is the latest attempt to bring slot machines and gaming to the tracks. New gambling revenue that on-track gaming would generate would bring in money for the state’s $31 billion capital plan.

The bill was initially passed by the Senate and remains in the House and new amendments have since been added and it will be sent back to the Senate for concurrence.
