I’m Nobody’s Fool wins Late Closer Final at Pocono

by James Beviglia, for Pocono Downs

I’m Nobody’s Fool used a good trip and a strong late burst to win the Wyoming Valley Trot late closer final on Friday afternoon at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried a purse of $34,000.

I’m Nobody’s Fool sat third much of the race as blistering fractions were set by Focus, part of the entry that was the 4-5 favorite. New Hampshire Boy mad a big move on the outside to take the lead in the final turn, but driver Greg Merton made his move in the stretch with I’m Nobody’s Fool, swinging him off the rail and gunning him home for the win in a career-best time of 1:55:4. New Hampshire Boy finished second and Fortysecondstreet got up for third.

It was the fifth lifetime win for I’m Nobody’s Fool, who went off at 7-1. The 4-year-old stallion is trained by John Wyatt for owners Suzanne Stipp-Press and James E. McGovern of New Jersey.
