Important changes to Indiana Sires Stakes schedule at Indiana Downs

by Jessica Barnes, director of racing and breed development, Indiana Horse Racing Commission

Indianapolis, IN — Due to the recent cancellation of qualifiers scheduled for July 21 at Indiana Downs, the Indiana Sires Stakes schedule has been modified to give participating horses an opportunity to meet qualifying standards.

After discussions with Indiana Downs, the Standardbred Advisory Board and Breed Development Committee and the Indiana Standardbred Association, it was determined that the best course of action would be to modify the existing schedule.

“With this being the first year of significantly higher purses, I feel it is important for people that have invested in Indiana racing to have a fair shot to race their horses in the Sires Stakes and not be denied because of an unusual occurrence,” noted Indiana Downs Racing Secretary Scott Peine.

As follows is the modified schedule:

Division–Leg–New Race Date
2-year-old filly pace-1-Monday, August 2
2-year-old colt pace-1-Wednesday, August 4
2-year-old filly trot-1-Friday, August 6
2-year-old colt trot-1-Friday, August 6
3-year-old filly pace-1-Tuesday, August 3
3-year-old colt pace-1-Saturday, August 7
3-year-old filly trot-1-Thursday, August 5
3-year-old colt trot-1-Thursday, August 5
3-year-old filly trot-2-Friday, August 13
