Important insurance notice for USTA drivers and trainers

by T.C. Lane, director of officials, the U.S. Trotting Assn.

Columbus, OH — Are you aware while racing in Canada, the tracks do not carry accident insurance on American drivers and/or trainers?

With many drivers/trainers headed north of the border to race, a need was recognized by the United States Trotting Association and its Board of Directors to provide this type of insurance for its members. Underwritten by Federal Insurance Company, a member company of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, The Van Gundy Agency, together with the USTA, is now offering Accident Medical and Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage to any member driver and/or member trainer while racing/training at a Canadian harness racing track.

The USTA has agreed to fund those who are participating in Canada until April 30, 2009. Effective May 1, those horsemen that plan on racing in Canada for 2009 must take action to continue with the coverage that is available.

We cannot express to you the importance of this coverage and we encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity. To enroll in this Canadian On Track Driver/Trainer Accident program, simply click here and return the enrollment form with the annual premium to Van Gundy Insurance. The effective date for this policy is always the first day of the month after the premium is received.

This Canadian On Track Driver/Trainer Accident Insurance should not be confused with the 24 Hour Voluntary Disability Insurance that is offered to USTA licensed drivers and/or trainers.
