Indiana Horse Racing Commission YouTube channel now live

Indianapolis, IN — A leader in the use of social media for a state commission, the Indiana Horse Racing Commission is proud to announce the rejuvenation of its YouTube channel to add to its arsenal of communication tools.

The IHRC YouTube channel offers interested parties a multitude of ways to learn more about the three breeds that race in the state of Indiana — Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse and Standardbred. Videos from races for each breed are featured in specific playlists and an educational playlist is also included.

The Breeder and Owner Education playlist includes the Marketing for the Horse Racing Industry seminar hosted by the IHRC in 2017. This popular seminar is now live for all horse owners and breeders to take in the valuable information on how to best market and advertise their farm and horses. Presenters from that seminar included Topline Communications/Retired Racehorse Project’s Jen Roytz, Equiseen’s Chad Mendell, TwinSpires’ Vance Hanson and American Racehorse’s Denis Blake.

Sections from the well-attended Foaling and Reproductive Emergencies seminar, hosted by the Centaur Specialty Equine Hospital in Shelbyville and Dr. Tim Gudehus, are also available in the playlist. Discussions such as “What can go wrong with foaling?” and “Postpartum care for the mare and factors for rebreeding” are covered in this seminar.

“I feel it is very important for the Indiana Horse Racing Commission to have a presence on YouTube because it is the second most used search engine, next to Google,” explains Megan Arszman, Communications Coordinator for the IHRC. “We have started building our own library of videos by using our other channels such as Facebook, so it’s a no-brainer to bring them all to the same place.”

One such video was one of the earliest Facebook Live videos done by Arszman during the 2017 Fox Stake at the Indiana State Fair. Taken exclusively from the starting car, the video garnered more than 3,500 views on the Facebook page alone. It has since been uploaded to the YouTube channel for easier discovery.

The IHRC has been utilizing social media to be more transparent to horsemen and women, as well as to shine a light on the growing Indiana horse racing industry. Breed development program meetings and commission meetings are live-streamed on Facebook with live interaction for those who can’t make it to the meetings, but can tune in elsewhere and feel like they are still an important part of the program.

The IHRC YouTube channel is continuing to grow and evolve, and the commission welcomes all horse racing enthusiasts to subscribe to stay up-to-date by searching “Indiana Horse Racing Commission” or going to this link.
