Information for horsemen and horsewomen for Spirit of Massachusetts

Plainville, MA — Owners, trainers and drivers participating in the $250,000 Spirit of Massachusetts Trot, the $100,000 Clara Barton Distaff Pace or any other overnight race at Plainridge Park on Sunday (July 28), please take note of the following information.

The draw for all races on Sunday (July 28) will be held on Thursday (July 25). The box closes at 9 a.m. You can call your entries into the race office at 508.576.4485 or 508.576.4486.

There will be a detention barn for both the Spirit of Massachusetts and Clara Barton races and all horses for both events must be checked in prior to 9 p.m. on Saturday evening (July 27).

All horses racing at Plainridge Park must be accompanied by a current 2019 Coggins, health certificate and evidence of EVH-1 vaccine in order to enter the barn area.

All owners, trainers, drivers and grooms must have a current Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) license. The MGC office located adjacent to the paddock entrance, will be open from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays as well as on Sunday (July 28) from mid-morning on. There you can obtain your license and ID tag prior to entering the barn area.

And due to the many events happening in the area during Spirit weekend (including the International Champions Cup soccer game at nearby Gillette Stadium) it is suggested that you make your hotel reservations early to ensure you have accommodations.
