Iowa HHA members support Standardbred retirement programs

by Lesa Peters

Grinnell, IA — Curtis Carey, looking to add something new to the 2013 USTA District 4A banquet, contacted stallion owner Lesa Peters and suggested they organize a stallion raffle with proceeds to support retired Standardbreds.

Stallion owners responded by offering breedings to 18 different stallions. Tickets sold for $10 with a total of $1,300 being raised. 100 percent of the proceeds were forwarded to New Vocations Standardbred Retirement Program.

Southwind Elian’s owners CD Huffman and Lesa Peters note that in addition to being a great cause, it is also a way to bring a mare to your stallion that otherwise may not have been bred. It’s a win/win situation for everyone.

Organizers would like to thank all of the stallion owners who donated and all of the enthusiastic participants who made the raffle a success.
