Italian trotter Bepi BI wins the Sweden Cup at Solvalla

The Sweden Cup, known as the Elitlopp Consolation, was raced with three eliminations and a final Saturday afternoon (May 28) at Solvalla.

The 5-year-old Italian trotter Bepi Bi, sired by Donato Hanover, was able to take command from post position one and would go on to win by a length, timed in 1:55.1f with trainer Alessandro Gocciadoro in the bike.

The purse for the winner was $61,000.

Bepi Bi was one of the three elimination winners. He won in 1:53.4f.

The fastest elimination winner was German-bred, but Dutch-trained, Officer Stephen (sired by Pastor Stephen), who won in 1:53.2f for trainer/driver Dion Tesselaar.

The third elimination winner was Swedish bred Usain Töll (sired by Googoo Gaagaa), trained by Danish/Italian Erik Bondo and with Christoffer Eriksson of Sweden in the bike, timed in 1:54.4f.

French victory in Harper Hanovers Lopp

The 9-year-old French trotter Diable de Vauvert and Gabriele Gelormini was favored to win the prestigious Harper Hanovers Lopp at Solvalla Saturday afternoon.

Harper Hanovers Lopp is raced over approximately two miles and carries a purse for the winner of 1 million SEK or $100,000.

Diable de Vauvert had to trail the field by 40 meters, but managed to win after a very strong last lap, where he was timed in :56 the last half-mile. Diable de Vauvert won by 1-1/2 lengths, timed in 1:56.3f (mile rate).
