Jacobs gets his wish with Heston Blue Chip

by Justin Horowitz, Regional Racing Marketing Manager, Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY — Prominent New York owner Ken Jacobs really wanted his top 3-year-old pacer Heston Blue Chip to win the Meadowlands Pace. But after his fourth place finish, the focus shifted towards winning the Empire Breeders Classic at Tioga Downs. Jacobs got his wish over the weekend when Heston Blue Chip not only won the $270,000 race, he also broke his own track record in his 1:48.4 performance.

That win, plus Bettor B Lucky’s 14-1 upset over American Jewel in the EBC Filly Final, are featured on this week’s episode of “Inside Harness Racing.”

The show airs Wednesday (August 15) at 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Time Warner Cable Sports throughout Upstate New York. The program also airs on HPI TV in Canada. Viewers may also watch all episodes online via the Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs YouTube page at www.youtube.com/tiogadowns.

Also on this week’s show, Hambletonian Oaks runner-up Win Missy B tuned up for her rematch with Oaks winner Personal Style in the Moni Maker at the Meadowlands. She cruised to victory in a division of the New York Sire Stakes at Vernon Downs.

Plus, the next lesson from Harness Racing University explores the importance of a horse’s final quarter-mile time.
