Harrington, DE — Long-time Delaware horseman James Case, 81, died September 3, 2011.
Mr. Case dedicated his life to horsemen’s rights and was a vital member of the racing community in Delaware and the Delmarva peninsula throughout his career. He served as a director in horsemen’s organizations for more than 33 years. He also served as Cloverleaf president for approximately six years, and was the first ever Delaware Standardbred Owners Association president from its inception in 1997 until his retirement in 2009.
Mr. Case helped usher in a new era of racing in Delaware after the Horsemen’s Redevelopment Act helped to revitalize the sport in The First State.
In his racing career, Mr. Case started the High Hope Stable and trained horses for more than 50 years.
Mr. Case is survived by his wife, Joan; and three children, Ty, Todd and Jane.
A moment of silence will be held in Mr. Case’s honor on Monday (September 5) at Harrington Raceway at 5:10 p.m. Horsemen, friends and family of Mr. Case are invited to attend.
