James Foley wins GSY Series final at the Big M

East Rutherford, NJ — Besides the above average temperature for this time of year, the GSY Series final on Friday (March 26) at The Meadowlands had some other interesting twists.

With blustery winds in the 50 mph range and tons of speed on paper, only three horses left for the lead and nobody was parked on the outside to the quarter pole. Everyone remained in single file as the field approached the half and that is when the outer flow began to develop.

To summarize this race, So So De Vie (James Foley) set sail from the dreaded 10 post and was able to rate his pacer to a :28.4 quarter and :58 half with a tail wind to boot down the backstretch, but picked it up in the third quarter as the field turned for home.

He was able to stave off all late challengers en route to a three-quarter length victory. Preppy Art pulled from the three hole turning for home but John Calabrese could only manage to get up for second over the post time favorite, Sugartown (Tony Beltrami), who rounded out the trifecta.

The mile was timed in 1:55.3.

The winner is a 4-year-old gelding out of the mare Place Your Best and was sired by American Ideal. He is owned by Friendship Stables and is trained by Williams Hernandez.

The GSY amateurs will be back on the card next Friday night for a regular event with a purse of $10,500. The first post is scheduled at 6:20 p.m.
