James Rathbone, 65, dies

Columbus, OH — James R. Rathbone, 65, of Woodstown, N.J., died Aug. 8, 2015, at his home after a short fight with cancer.

He was born to Wilbert “Mick” Rathbone and Helen (nee Ware) Rathbone, in Salem, N.J., and was an owner, trainer and driver of Standardbreds. In the 1970s and 1980s, he campaigned The Dozer, Wee Janel, Sarah BG and Alan Quinton, among others. In his later years, he enjoyed developing colts in the winter and spending the summers with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his mother, Helen; brother, Larry; sons, Brad, Brian and Joshua and their spouses; and grandchildren, Mick and Kaylee.

The family is planning a celebration of his life on Aug. 23 at VFW Post 253 in Salem, N.J., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
