Washington, PA — Jazzed remained perfect in her two-race career with a facile front-end win in Thursday’s (July 1) $162,544 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes at The Meadows. The first-timer Lake Dora was just as impressive in capturing the other division of the event, known as the Sand Tart, for freshman filly pacers.

Jazzed earned her second win in as many starts with a 1:53 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes score at The Meadows.

Jazzed launched her career with a victory at Harrah’s Philadelphia that was abetted by a cozy pocket trip. There was no such gift in the Sand Tart, as the 4-5 favorite seized the lead from post six in a demanding :27.1. But when Andy Miller gave her a :29.2 second-panel breather, the race for win was pretty much over.

“I wanted her to go forward off the gate,” Miller said. “I knew she was pretty good in there, and I was hoping nobody would take me too hard. That little breather obviously was key to the race, but then she responded finishing. We’ll keep her in the sire stakes for now and see where we end up. She’s definitely one to be reckoned with.”

Jazzed scored in 1:53, 2-1/4 lengths better than No Foolin, while Must Be Nice and Somesweetsomewhere dead-heated for show.

Lake Dora has been something of a troublemaker for trainer Nancy Takter — except when she’s on the track.

“She has a little bit of an attitude sometimes,” Takter said. “She’s prefect on the track. It’s just getting her to the track. Sometimes she can be a hassle. She’ll rear up, and she’s broken three jog carts. But she likes to race, and that’s good. She uses that energy on the track in good ways.”

She was all business in her career bow, drawing off late for Yannick Gingras to triumph by four lengths in 1:53. Im No April Fool and Madeira Hanover completed the ticket. Rojan Stables, Caviart Farms and RAW Equine Inc. campaign the daughter of Captaintreacherous and Bodacious Hanover, a $50,000 yearling acquisition. Takter said the filly will remain in the PASS series for now but is heavily staked at season’s end.

Tim Tetrick and trainer Jim King Jr. teamed for a stakes double with Captain Cowgirl and Lyons Serenity while Aintthesamewithoutu took the other split.

The victory by Captain Cowgirl, a daughter of Captaintreacherous and Rideintothesunset, was especially noteworthy. Not only did she win in 1:52.2, erasing the old stakes mark of 1:53.1, but she also did it by toughing out a sustained first-over bid from fifth. King said that scintillating debut didn’t surprise him.

“She’s been really, really likeable,” King said. “My eyes tell me she’s one of the big girls. She’s easy to be around, and she has high speed. When she had to come first over, I was a little doubtful, but I could see the momentum was there. I saw no sign of it going away.”

King said he’ll likely promote Captain Cowgirl, who’s owned by Jo Ann Looney-King and Kenneth Frieder, to the sires stakes ranks. Bermuda and Smuggle Tina finished second and third, respectively.

Friday’s (July 2) 13-race program at The Meadows features a $164,568 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes event for freshman filly trotters, as well as a $3,089.83 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
