Vernon, NY — Jenny Lake and Leon Bailey captured the $5,200 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Thursday (July 30).

Jenny Lake and Spoiler Alert (Brett Crawford) both charged out of the gate together, dueling all the way to the first turn. Spoiler Alert cleared to control a :26.3 first quarter in :26.3 and a :55.1 half while Jenny Lake continued to follow in the pocket. Around the final turn, the 4-year-old RC Royalty mare made her move, and she took control turning for home. Gettin Serious (Roman Lopez) flew down the stretch and became the major danger, but Jenny Lake had plenty in the tank to win easily in 1:54.4. Gettin Serious had to settle for second; Winning Princess (Jennifer Lappe) came up to get third.

Jenny Lake, a 12-time winner in her career is trained by Paul Minckler for owners Ed and Carol Namiotka. She returned $3.60 in her fourth win of the season.

Jimmy Whittemore drove three winners on the card, giving him 24 on the season — one behind leading driver Howard Parker (25). Leon Bailey had a driving double, giving him 18 wins and third place on the list.
