Jesse Gosman, 77, dies

Columbus, OH — Jesse W. Gosman, 77, a retired Standardbred trainer and driver, died July 30, 2012.

Mr. Gosman was born August 1, 1935, in Milton, Ky. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran.

As a young man he liked to travel to horse shows and worked for Bob McKinley Rodeo for three years. He also worked with Thoroughbred race horses and quarter horses. Trail riding, fishing and camping were things he made time for.

As a Standardbred driver, he won more than 1,000 races. He raced in Ohio, Illinois, New York, Kentucky and Florida. He raced for 18 years in New York at Buffalo Raceway and Batavia Downs before moving back home to Kentucky. He won several driving titles at the old Louisville Downs.

Mr. Gosman is survived by his wife, Susie H.; children, Gwen (Bob) Childs, Jesse Lee, Danielle (Mike) McKenzie and Theresa (Rick) Ledford; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Leon (Helen); sisters, Nancy Wright and Nola (Ira) McCutcheon; and faithful dog, Patchy. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin (Gwen), Clarence (Doris), and Jack (Barbara).
