Jett Away draws clear at the wire to win the Mares Open on Tuesday at Dover.

Jett Away and Time Flies N (Hal Belote) engaged in an old fashion head-to-head duel in the week’s top distaff feature. Brett Brittingham taxied Jett Away alongside Time Flies N after the half and the pair battled it out the rest of a 1:53.2 mile with Jett Away pulling away near the finish line. Go Flyin N (Brad Hanners) was third.

It was the ninth win of the season for Jett Away, owned by George Brem, Mike Nichols and Bob McGee. The four-year-old daughter of Dream Away now has banked $98,705 this year.

Leah Vandervort, a talented young lady driver from a harness racing family, drove Deliberate Foul to a 1:57 victory in the $11,000 sub-featured trot. Ms. Vandervort waited until the field of nine reached the turn for home to make her move and the five-year-old Deliberate Speed gelding sailed past the leaders to score his sixth win of the year for owners Bill Vandervort, Jr. and Tony Salomone. Meadowagogo (Hal Belote) was second with Mac Machine (Herve Filion) the third place finisher.

Brooks Stable’s Hasty Dewar rewarded driver Kevin Sizer after a patient drive with a 1:55.1 victory in a $9,000 Filly and Mare Pace. Red Teddy (Brad Hanners) cut out all the early fractions and finished second with Scootinannirevonah (Hal Belote) third.

Art Stafford, Sr.’s Vicki Gram, a three-year-old Valley Victor filly, was strongest in the stretch for Eddie Dennis on the way to a 1:59.1 score in a $9,000 Delaware Trot. Smokey Bear (Eddie Davis, Jr.) and Balanced Portfolio (Jim Morand) were second and third respectively.

In a $20,000 claiming pace, Now That’s Art, fifth on the backstretch, stormed down the lane for Vic Kirby to overtake Jaccka Midnight N (Jim Morand) in the closing strides for a 1:54.4 win. Dudley Death Drop (George Dennis) finished third.

George Dennis won his second race in a row, guiding Alton Lynch, Sr.’s Triple Jackpot to a 1:54.4 win in the first of two $17,500 Delaware claiming paces. JD’s Dragon (Brad Hanners) was next. Hawaiian Buddy (Hal Belote) took third.

In the other edition, Green Racing’s rejuvenated 11-year-old Crisp Sahbra rolled to his third straight triumph for Jim Morand, notching a 1:53.2 victory. Franco Layman N (Kevin Sizer) was second in front of Traider Raider (Brad Hanners).
