Jimmy Marohn Jr. hurt; horse euthanized

Monticello, NY — Up and coming driver Jimmy Marohn, Jr. was hurt in a racing accident at Monticello Raceway on Tuesday, May 6, and a horse involved had to be euthanized.

The mishap occurred in the third race on the program, but details remain unclear.

According to preliminary reports, the pacer, Sudden Strike A, driven by Jordan Stratton, choked down, fell and broke his back. He had to be euthanized on the racetrack.

Marohn was catapulted to the ground when he was hit from behind by another horse after Sudden Strike A fell. Marohn was taken by ambulance to Community General Hospital in nearby Harris, N.Y., and although he sustained cuts and bruises, reports were that his injuries are not life threatening, athough he’s remaining in the hospital for a CAT scan.

Stratton remained unscathed and drove later on the card.
