Campbellville, ON — Heavy favorite JK She’salady tied the track, Canadian and world record of 1:50.1 when she coasted to a four length win in the C$480,000 She’s A Great Lady Stakes on Saturday (Aug. 30) at Mohawk. Her time also eclipsed the stakes record by one-fifth of a second.

Driven by Yannick Gingras for trainer Nancy Johansson, the daughter of Art Major-Presidential Lady thus kept her record unblemished, now a perfect six-for-six after her dazzling display in this year’s renewal of the rich stake for 2-year-old filly pacers. She equaled the world record for a 2-year-old pacing filly on a mile track set by I Luv The Nitelife in 2012 and equaled by Precocious Beauty in 2013.

JK She’salady, coming first over from fourth, blasted by another unbeaten filly, Band Of Angels, after the half in :55, got to the three-quarters in 1:22.1 and kept cruising through the lane to win in dominant fashion.

Her 3-year-old brother, JK Endofanera, took the Pepsi North America Cup, the richest pace on the continent, in an upset in June at Mohawk.

“Every start she keeps getting better and better,” said Gingras. “Last week (in her elimination), she really, really impressed me. She went a big mile last week and that’s when I thought she really showed herself the best filly. She’s got a huge three-eighths (of a mile) in her.

“You can’t be that far off (the lead). I didn’t want to be second or third over. I wanted to be first up and when I came to Ronnie (Pierce, driving Band Of Angels), he didn’t look like he was that strong. So I decided to make my move there.”

Last week, Gingras drove both JK She’salady and Band Of Angels to impressive elimination wins but had to make a decision as to which filly to drive in the final.

“That was the toughest decision in horse racing I’ve ever had to make,” continued Gingras. “Filly-wise, I thought JK She’salady was the best filly out of the two but there was the (trainer) Ron Burke factor and (owner) Mr. Donovan. I drive Maven for him and she’s given me great thrills. It was a very, very tough decision as far as connections go. I had to pick one and I went for the win.”

The She’s A Great Lady, which began in 2000, has a winner’s roster that recently includes such champions as Put On A Show (2009), American Jewel (2011) and I Luv The Nitelife (2012).

As the overwhelming 2-5 choice, JK She’salady, a homebred for 3 Brothers Stables of New York City, paid $2.90, $2.50 and $2.10, combining with Bedroomconfessions ($8.30, $6.10) for a $27.50 (3-4) exactor. A 3-4-9 (Shakai Hanover, $9.90) triactor returned $362.60 while a $1 superfecta (3-4-9-7–Bettor Be Steppin) was worth $802.10.
