Washington, DC — Joe Wilson, current President of the Thoroughbred Racing Associations (TRA) of North America, has been elected to the American Horse Council’s (AHC) Board of Trustees. He replaces outgoing TRA President and AHC Board Member Scott Wells.

“The AHC is grateful to Mr. Wells for lending his time and knowledge to the AHC. He will be missed on the Board of Trustees,” said AHC President Julie Broadway. “We are pleased that Mr. Wilson has agreed to take his place as the new President of TRA. He has been involved in the racing industry for many years and his experience will be an excellent addition to the AHC’s Board.”

Wilson, a Philadelphia native, has worked in the racetrack business for more than 30 years. He began with a stint working for AmTote at the old Keystone Racetrack in 1982 and stayed with them until 1999 when he was hired by Greenwood Racing as Director of Wagering Services. During his time with AmTote, he estimates that he worked at more than 30 tracks across North America and managed the operation at Parx Racing beginning in 1993.

He remained in his role as Director of Wagering Services until 2002 when he was promoted to Vice President of Operations while also assuming the role of the racetrack’s General Manager. In May of 2007, Mr. Wilson was appointed the track’s Chief Operating Officer.
