John F. Swart Jr., 96, dies

Oakton, VA – Longtime Virginia Standardbred owner John F. Swart Jr. passed away on January 28, 2022 in Oakton Va at age 96 surrounded by his loving family.

He was a heavily decorated World War II veteran from the European Theater and D Day earning the rank of Sergeant at age 19. He was a successful CPA and business man in Fairfax County Va. for over 60 years.

He was a Standardbred owner and breeder for over 50 years and campaigned many Stakes winning trotters throughout Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Among his top performers were Md and Va Champion Pride Of Windswept, NJ Champion Tara Windswept, NJ stakes winner Rebel Windswept, Va Stakes winner Miss Fairfax, notable open trotter Czar Windswept and the stakes producers Allwin Beauty and Sprocket Hanover.

His trainers over 5 decades were Del Cameron, Gary and Warren Cameron, Gary Cameron II and Nick Callahan with Chris & Georgia Coyle among caretakers for his broodmares and foals in NC.

He is survived by his wife Sarah, daughter Lucy, son Jay, Sarah’s daughter Contance, sons Ralph and Gordon, 14 Grand children and 23 Great grandchildren . He was pre deceased by son James Swart DVM , mother of his children Pauline and brother Asa.

Services were held February 4th at Fairfax UMC Church with internment in the Fairfax City Cemetary.
