John “Jack” Tatham, 82, dies

Columbus, OH — John “Jack” D. Tatham, 82, of Columbus, Ohio, died May 20, 2021.

Mr. Tatham was born April 9, 1939, in Granville, Ohio, to the late Dalton and Louise (Wilson). He retired after 34 years with the United States Postal Service.

He was actively involved in the National Association of Letter Carriers, the U.S. Trotting Association, and was a trainer/owner of Standardbreds and member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. He traveled to various states and county fairs through his passion for horse racing at pari-mutuel tracks throughout the Midwest and East Coast.

He enjoyed playing, watching, and coaching youth softball, baseball, and basketball. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan, often traveling to Florida to see spring training.

Mr. Tatham is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia “Pat” (Welsh); daughter, Betsy (Tim) Pierce; son, Brian; grandchildren, Jonathan Pierce and Alexis Clayton; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Jim) Dumbauld and Jenny Welsh; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved Boston Terrier, Sonny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-sister, Carol (Neil) Williams; and brother-in-law, Jim Welsh.

A visitation will take place on Monday (May 24) at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, Ohio, from 4- 7p.m. All are welcome to attend a graveside service that will be held on Tuesday (May 25) at Maple Grove Cemetery, 350 E. Maple St., Granville, Ohio, at 11 a.m.
