John MacKinnon guides full brothers to Rosecroft winner’s circle

by Pete Medhurst, for Rosecroft Raceway

Ft. Washington, MD — John MacKinnon had a driving double at Rosecroft on Sunday night (April 2). So did Timmy Offutt, Allan Davis, who swept the late double, and Justin Vincent.

What made MacKinnon’s different from the others? He guided full brothers, a year apart, to wins in back-to-back races.

In race four, 3-year old Little TJ parlayed a second over trip to a win by just over three lengths in 1:56.4. In race five, MacKinnon sent 4-year old JW Renegade, who has been a stone cold closer most of his career, three wide around the first turn to the lead and never looked back, stopping the timer in 1:52.4.

Both winners are offspring of Pacific Renegade out of the Three Olives mare Honey.

Kim Vincent drove Rock N Roll Jet to a gate-to-wire win the $10,000 Open Handicap, also getting away from his normal come from behind tactics. Buddy Bright trains and co-owns the winner with Dawn Webb. McKenry (Bret Brittingham) was second and Concert Artist (Billy Carter) was third.

Live racing continues Tuesday night at 6:40 p.m.
