Finnish born Jorma Kontio, 62, won his 10,000th race on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 16) at a little track in Finland.

Jorma Kontio won his 10,000th race on Sunday afternoon.

Kontio, who has lived in Sweden for many years, won his first race when he was 13. He has won numerous big stakes races all over Europe.

He posted victory number 9,999 on Saturday afternoon at Aby in Sweden and traveled to Finland on Sunday to race at the Pihtipudas track, which is in the middle of Finland.

Kontio posted victory number 10,000 in the first race of the day and went on to win six more races that afternoon.

No Scandinavian harness driver has won more races than Kontio. In Europe it is only Heinz Wewering of Germany who has won more races.
