Katie Cross, 86, dies

Columbus, OH — Katie Cross, 86, of Goshen, Ind., died August 4, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital. She was the mother of trainer/driver and USTA director Jay Cross and Hoosier Park announcer Steve Cross.

She was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Reno County, Kan., to William and Susie Yoder. On June 8, 1944, in Haven, Kan., she married Harry Cross. He died Oct. 12, 2004.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ellen (Michael) Randolph; sons, Jay (Pam) and Steven (Darlene); five grandsons; sisters, Polly Fry, Anna (Glen) Fry, Edna Miller, Vera (Mervin) Miller and Ruby (Elmer) Byler; and brothers, Felty (Ruby) Yoder, Albert (Rosa) Yoder, William (Lora) Yoder, David (Ida Mae) Yoder and Merle (Ottie) Yoder. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann; a stillborn son and a stillborn daughter; seven brothers; and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, August 6, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, at New Life Fellowship, S.R. 5, Topeka. The Rev. William Yoder, her brother, will officiate. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen.
