Katie’s Rocker is an impressive winner at Rosecroft

by Pete Medhurst, for Rosecroft Raceway

Ft. Washington, MD — Howard Taylor’s Katie’s Rocker scorched the Rosecroft stonedust on Tuesday night (May 16), taking the featured Winners Over Pace in 1:50.4.

Roger Plante drove the winner for trainer Michael Hall who had two wins on the card. Plante also had two wins on the card.

Russell Foster had three wins on the night and Brian Burton notched two.

Before the pari-mutuel card started, there were three Maryland Sires Stakes preliminaries contested for $6,500 each.

Hybrid Heidi took a 3-year-old filly pacing division in 1:53.3 for Burton and owner Richard Hans. The daughter of Cam’s Rocket is trained by Carlin Savage.

In the other division, last year’s queen, Miss Valerie, made it 11-11 in her career in an eventful second split. The race saw four different leaders, as first time starter Whitesville Michelle was parked through a half-mile, taking the lead from Cedar Hall Matty and A Blue Believer. Evergreen Marla then moved to the lead at the five-eighths-pole and exchanged leads with Miss Valerie the rest of the way before Plante got the daughter of Allie’s Western to the line first in her seasonal debut. Maxkenna was third.

Sophomore male trotter Ei Ei O got back on track after a break in the Dexter Cup eliminations, wearing down a pesky pacesetting LG’s Hotshoeboy (Les Givens) in 1:56.3. Burton was in the sulky for Hans who trains the horse as well. Redneck Cowboy was third.
