from Kawartha Downs

Fraserville, ON — Kawartha Downs will celebrate its 45th year of live harness racing this Saturday night (July 15) where two of the horses competing will be vying for their third straight win at the Fraserville, Ontario, racetrack.

In the first race St Lads Captain is the first to try for the triple after winning his last two starts at KD by more than three lengths each time. A 3-year-old gelding by Mach Three, St Lads Captain is trained by Wilf Perrault who co-owns with Grant and Joanne Curnow. Dan Gassien will be back in the bike on Saturday night when the horse leaves from post five.

In the fourth race it’s Bet Till Dawn who will go for his third straight. Dave Gibson trains and co-owns the Bettor’s Delight 4-year-old with Glenn Tarver. Kawartha’s leading driver Reg Gassien will be up behind the gelding who has five wins earned thus far this year.

Patrons will receive free birthday cupcakes to celebrate Kawartha’s birthday. Saturday also marks the track’s Bring A Friend where race goers are encouraged to bring someone with them to the track who has never been before.

A handicapping seminar hosted by Nick Boyd and Gord Brown will be held from 6 p.m.-6:30 p.m. to answer any questions the newcomers may have about the program or betting.

In addition, our Meet & Greet horse for the evening is Mr Tasty who still holds the record for the fastest mile ever trotted at Kawartha (1:54).

Post time on Saturday is 7 p.m.
