Kevin Thomas, 61, dies

Loretto, KY – Kevin Thomas, 61, a longtime director of the Kentucky Harness Horsemen’s Association, died July 3, 2021.

Born on Oct. 22, 1959, he was a loving father, husband, friend and soon to be a grand father. Born in Loretto, KY to Ruby and Bee Thomas, Kevin was one of seven children.

He was passionate about his work in the Standardbred horse industry, most notably for Duke Duke and Justice Hall and his self written software, Horse Cents.

Racing in the 2004 and 2006 Hambletonian Stakes were among his proudest accomplishments. Married to his wife Marsha of nearly 40 years, he was the proudest father of his daughter, Emily, and soon to be proudest grandfather to Lauren Grace.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bee Thomas; his mother, Ruby Thomas; his brother, David Thomas and brother-in-law, Jeff Spalding.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Spalding Thomas; daughter, Emily Nalley (Alex); granddaughter Lauren. Father and Mother In-Law Henry and Virginia Spalding; Brothers, Alan Thomas and Keith Thomas, Sisters, Michelle Rapier, Mary Ponchio and Diane Decker and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto, KY; Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 3-8 p.m.. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday July 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lebanon, KY. A Christian burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
