Keystone Harrier captures Super Bowl

from the Meadowlands Publicity Department

East Rutherford, NJ — Keystone Harrier ($13.60, $5.40, $4.00) trotted on to victory as the odds-on favorite, Mohammed Mali, broke stride at the top of the stretch in the sixth race, the $75,000 Super Bowl Final, on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Jack Moiseyev guided the four-year-old son of Sierra Kosmos to his second win in three starts this year, pushing his career earnings to $57,811 for owner-trainer Norton Shoemaker III of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

Keystone Harrier held off the late effort of Ray Gun ($4.00, $3.20) for the length and a half victory in a lifetime best of 1:571 for the mile. Bundle of Gold ($7.20) was third by three lengths.

In the third race, A Very Nice Horse was the longest price on the board and posted her first win of the year, paying boxcar numbers of $217.00, $55.00, $18.80.

The three-year-old daughter of Incredible Finale paced the mile in a career best of 1:563 with Jim Taggart, Jr. driving for trainer Linda Holliday.

“She had pace last week in her first start here, but I couldn’t steer her,” the 33-year-old Taggart said. “I made some changes tonight in her driving bit, and she was much better. The trip was actually the most important thing that went our way. Linda Holliday works for me and trains some of my horses at Pocono. I won about 150 races (141) last year, and I have almost 1,500 career wins (1,493).”

A Very Nice Horse is eligible to the Tender Loving Care Series, which begins on February 4 at the Meadowlands.
