Kindergarten finals highlight Big M action

East Rutherford, NJ — The Kindergarten Classic will be in the spotlight Saturday (Nov. 2) at The Meadowlands, when $868,300 in purse money will be doled out among four finals in the event for 2-year-olds.

El Ideal, who is off a 6-1/4 length score last week, takes on Sky Castles, a winner of two in a row, in the colts and geldings trot. The filly trot pits Creature Of Habit against Senorita Rita. Both come in having won two straight.

In the filly pace, Rocknificent and Hen Party will renew their rivalry with both having won two in a row. When the pair met on Oct. 22, it was Rocknificent prevailing by just a neck.

Chief Mate (1:50.4) and Ideal Perception (1:51.3) both established lifetime-bests in taking their respective final preliminaries and top the male pace.

Live racing takes place this Friday and Saturday. Post time is 7:15 p.m.

WHHC Qualifier: The World Harness Handicapping Championship returns to the Meadowlands on Saturday (Nov. 2), with the first of six qualifiers presented by DerbyWars.com.

Players will have to pay a $100 total fee ($50 entry plus a $50 real-money bankroll) to participate in the competition that requires one to place $5 win wagers on any 10 Meadowlands races.

Prize winnings will be awarded to the top 10 finishers, while the top two will earn berths in the WHHC. Onsite registration is available until 7:15 p.m. the night of the contest.

Drink From The Cup: This weekend, Santa Anita Park will be the center of the Thoroughbred — and simulcast — racing universe as the 2019 edition of the Breeders’ Cup will take place with five races on day one and nine more on day two, featuring the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.

On Friday (Nov. 1), post time at Santa Anita is 1:45 p.m. (EDT) while the first Breeders’ Cup event takes place at 4:12 p.m. On Saturday (Nov. 2), post time for the first race is 1:07 p.m. The first Cup race is at 2:55 p.m. with the Classic scheduled for 8:44 p.m.

Looking Ahead: Several — if not many — divisional honors, as well as Horse of the Year, could be determined on Saturday (Nov. 23) on Fall Final 4/TVG Night at the Big M.

There will be four stakes events for 2-year-olds: the $470,000 Goldsmith Maid (filly trot), $400,000 Three Diamonds (filly pace), $400,000 Valley Victory (colt trot) and $490,000 Governor’s Cup (colt pace).

In addition, some of the biggest equine stars in the game will be in action in the TVG Mare Trot (for a purse of $175,000), TVG Mare Pace ($175,000), TVG Open Trot ($350,000) and TVG Open Pace ($350,000).

Racing fans may recall the 2018 TVG Open Pace, which resulted in a dominant 1:48 score by McWicked to lock up Horse of the Year honors.

Marvelous Mohawk: Last weekend, a great job was done by all at Woodbine Mohawk Park, as all 12 Breeders Crown races were held at Canada’s top venue with one exciting finish after another.

Betting over the course of the two days was just over $6.6 million, despite a Saturday evening that saw rainy weather.

“Congratulations to our friends in Canada and the Hambletonian Society for putting on a spectacular event,” said Meadowlands’ Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “The races and their TV production was not only well-received on track, but at the Meadowlands and all other simulcast outlets as well.”
